What is HABRI Central?

HABRI Central is an online platform for open research and collaboration into the relationships between humans and animals, specifically companion animals. HABRI Central uses a combination of library resources steeped in a communicative and collaborative environment to facilitate the discovery, access, production, and preservation of human-animal interaction research. A bibliography of references to human-animal interaction literature helps you to discover existing research while a full-text repository allows you to freely access a wide-array of published texts. Along with these library resources, community-driven discussion areas, knowledge markets, and user groups all allow you to connect and share knowledge with experts, professionals, and others involved in the study of human-animal interaction. These aspects of HABRI Central are supported by the Pets & People journal which provides an outlet for novel, peer-reviewed, human-animal interaction scholarship. By hosting all of these features in an easily accessible and centralized location, HABRI Central helps unite those involved in the study of human-animal interaction across while simultaneously lowering the access barriers that so often prevent the free flow of information among them.

Our Mission

HABRI Central exists to advance the interdisciplinary understanding and study of human-animal interaction. By aggregating and hosting collections of material related to the study of human-animal interaction in a centralized, collaborative, and inclusive environment, we hope to facilitate research and stimulate discussion across disciplines.

Governance

HABRI Central receives input and guidance from two different advisory boards. The HABRI Central Editorial Board is responsible for the development and maintenance of the site's content and scope policies. The HABRI Central Management Advisory Board provides the HABRI Central Team with advice and recommendations about project operations. We Can't Do It Alone

Because the study of human-animal interaction involves the work of many individuals scattered across many different fields of study, organizations, and nations, HABRI Central cannot provide a comprehensive survey of the study of human-animal interaction without your participation. Whether through the sharing of your opinion in the discussion areas, the representation of your organization among our groups, or through the submission of your work to the HABRI Central repository, your participation is essential to building and sharing an understanding of human-animal interaction with others. Whether you are a veterinarian, a nurse, a shelter worker, a government official, a teacher, a pet owner, a student, or a scholar, your unique views and understanding of the human-animal bond are invaluable to the community. By sharing them, you will be helping to improve everyone’s understanding of the countless ways in which animals and people affect each others’ lives.
