The AVMA recently passed a resolution that discourages pet owners from feeding their dogs and cats foods containing raw meats. WUSA reports on the issue. This decision arrives amid controversy surrounding the purported benefits and detriments of raw food diets. While the AVMA holds the position that such diets promote the spread of food borne pathogens like salmonella and E. coli, such diets have grown in popularity as others sources have claimed that raw diets have marked health benefits for the animal.
