Zoo Education Interpreter, Stingray Exhibit Supervisor

Position start date: On or around April 1, 2012

Responsibilities: Supervise all interpreters and their visitor/animal interactions at the Stingrays at Caribbean Cove exhibit, including proper demonstration of touching and feeding. Create and deliver a variety of informal educational opportunities for visitors that convey the Saint Louis Zoo’s animal and conservation messages. Use available props, animal artifacts/biofacts, and costumes in combination with interpretive training, to share Zoo messages with visitors in an engaging and accurate manner. Present educational programming in relation to the Stingrays exhibit for participants of all ages. Perfect for educators and performers alike.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college in science, education, or theater/performing arts preferred. Good communication and customer service skills are a must. This job requires specific training, flexibility, and the ability to work outdoors and in contact with salt water and shellfish. Work schedule varies and requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays. As co-supervisor of the Stingray exhibit, Interpreters, will work 5 days a week with Mon./Tues. or Wed./Thur. as probable days off. Required to have an annual TB test. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
