Abstract

For those applying for a Facility Dog or Companion Dog  – please email us  to request an application and it will be emailed to you.

For those applying for a PTSD or Psychiatric Service Dog, Diabetic Alert Dog, Hearing Dog, or Autism Service Dog, Mobility Assist Dog please follow instructions below:

Applications must be printed off and mailed in.  If you do not have the ability to print an application, email us at info@deafinitelydogs.org and a packet will be mailed to you  There is a non-refundable application fee of $35.00 that must be submitted with the application.  Applications received without $35.00 will not be reviewed. Individuals will be selected based on the tasks provided by the dogs that will be of the greatest benefit.  Deafinitely Dogs! does not train or place dogs for guide work for the blind, seizure detect/response, or personal protection.  Applications will be reviewed by our training team and board members.  Applicants will be notified within 90 days.  Notifications will be mailed for denied applications.  Applicants that are progressed forward will be notified and a phone interview will be scheduled.  After phone interviews are scheduled, home interviews will be scheduled.  Process for approval can take up to twelve months.

We place dogs with children, via parental placement, starting at 5 years and older.  It requires a strong family commitment to help young children develop a bond and working relationship with their service dog.  Dogs placed via parental placement require supervision and work only under the direct supervision of an adult, including while at school.

It’s important to understand that while these dogs are highly trained, they are not responsible for the safety of their person.  Never is it implied nor should it be assumed that these dogs have the ability to determine if a situation is safe and/or dangerous.

We will allow for you to have one other dog in the household.  Of course, your pet will need to meet the guidelines as per Deafinitely Dogs! so that he/she will not interfere with the service dog's work.  We also allow for up to two cats, other caged pets, such as small rodents, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish.  If at any time, it is determined that the above listed animals are distracting the assistance dogs ability to do his/her work, it will be required that the companion pets are re-homed or the assistance dog forfeited back to Deafinitely Dogs!
