Abstract

BEAMING Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization based in Neenah, Wisconsin, and a member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) International. Founded in 2004, BEAMING exists to enhance the quality of life for people with special needs by developing relationships between people and horses.  Since the movement of the horse closely resembles that of a human, horseback riding provides riders with a sensation similar to walking. By involuntarily training their muscles and improving neurological function and balance, participant’s grow skills in coordination and self-assurance while receiving therapeutic muscle stimulation. BEAMING offers therapeutic riding sessions four days per week. We also provide therapeutic riding for special needs students in collaboration with the local School Districts as a recreational outlet to their adaptive physical education program. Finally, we offer lessons specifically for U.S. military veterans through a program known as Horses, Hearts, and Heroes for servicemen and women who may be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or traumatic brain injuries.
