The VWSWS is convened by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) and sponsors in response to a growing body of evidence that veterinary students are experiencing excessive levels of stress, anxiety, and depression and that these factors negatively impact productivity, longevity, and professional enjoyment.
This year the VWSWS is a combination of two meetings: the Health and Wellness Summit that has been hosted for the past two years at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the 4th International Veterinary Social Work Summit (IVSWS) that has been hosted at the University of Tennessee Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and College of Social Work, in Knoxville, TN since 2008.

The goals of this inter-professional meeting are to:

• Develop a common understanding of the health and wellness issues faced by veterinary medical students and recent veterinary graduates;
• Engage in inter-professional dialogue about health and wellness factors in the veterinary profession;
• Share and formulate interventions for enhancing and protecting health and wellness within the veterinary profession.

For those interested, IVSWS 2015 will have both pre and post conferences offering CE credit for human and animal related professionals. The pre-conference is on compassion fatigue management.  The post-conference is on the link between human and animal violence.  Both pre-and post conferences require completion of an online module prior to attendance.
