First dogs in the Americas arrived from Siberia, disappeared after European contact

A new study from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign shows that the origins of the first dogs in the Americas were not domesticated North American wolves but were actually ones that followed human counterparts across a land bridge connecting Asia to America.
