Is agriculture in need of ethics?

The paper considers the interrelationships between ethics, the agro-food industry, civil society and government in the Netherlands. Changing norms and values in society, the influence of new technologies such as biotechnology, and international trade liberalization are discussed as providing arguments for the need for ethics in Dutch agriculture.
