The Animals and Society Institute develops knowledge in the field of human-animal studies, supports practice to address the relation between animal cruelty and other violence and promotes action to protect animals through the adoption of ethical, compassionate public policy. An independent research and educational organization, we work to enhance understanding of our complex relationships with other animals, stop the cycle of violence and promote stricter animal protection laws.

We are unique because we:

• are an independent source of credible expertise and accurate information that reflect the depth and diversity of issues and philosophies

• are a bridge for scholars and students to educational programs that advance human-animal
studies and animal advocacy

• hold an inclusive worldview on the moral and legal status of animals that fosters cooperation not only between the animal advocacy movement and other social movements and interests, but also within the animal advocacy movement itself
