Incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit charity in February 2014, our Mission is “to provide emotional healing through equine interaction and to provide safe and restorative homes for retired racehorses”.
We accomplish half of our Mission by facilitating certificated EAGALA services (the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) for veterans, first responders, couples, individuals, families, and even Corporate Team Buildings. The Equine Committee oversees the retired racehorse project – which accomplishes the other half of the Mission by receiving horses from the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation’s herd, or horses directly from the local racetracks who have been retired from racing. Healing Arenas partners with local organizations to rehab horses which may be injured, and re-trains and re-homes the horses to the perfect match.

Julie Baker, President is an EMT with a 911 provider, certified EAGALA equine professional, and a past employee of all the major racetracks in California, earning her Assistant Trainers license and full time exercise rider.
Vice President is Dan Prine, PhD who is EAGALA certified and facilitates the Stable Survivors Veterans Project – he’s also an active member of Back Country Horsemen’s Mid Valley Unit.
Second Vice-President is Sue Greene, past President and now Secretary of the California Thoroughbred Breeder’s Association and owner/operator of Woodbridge Farm in Oakdale, CA. Sue has been active and successful in the thoroughbred industry for over 30 years.
Treasurer is Mike Wagner, retired Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Deputy and Mounted Unit officer. Mike has also been very active with the Oakdale Saddle Club, putting the PRCA rodeo on there for over 30 years.
Secretary is Maria Bennett, certified EAGALA equine professional and active with Shady Lawn Farm in Oakdale, a full service lesson barn.
Director Crista Swier, LCSW, is a certified EAGALA mental health professional and long time equine professional.
Director Stephanie Stott is our Fundraising Coordinator and co-owns a local 70 year old successful business.
