Abstract

Ther-Equine’s mission is to promote and enhance the welfare of individuals with disabilities by providing a program of therapeutic, educational, and recreational value: and further, to empower individuals who are mentally, physically and/or emotional challenged
through the use of horses, while providing therapeutic benefits in a safe and controlled atmosphere.

Therapeutic Riding is the use of horses and equine-assisted activities in order to achieve goals that enchance physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral & educational skills with persons with disabilities.

Student goals are thoughtfully developed to foster independence and to provide challenging and educational activities.  Input is gathered from parents / guardians, rider, teachers, & therapists.  An instructor's lesson may include a wide variety of games and exercise designed to increase the rider's ability to listen, learn, and communicate all while learning riding skills.

Instructors hold certification through PATH as Therapeutic Riding Instructors.

A Stable Life is one component of Ther-Equine Therapeutic Riding Center that specifically address the mental, emotional, trauma, and substance use isuses.  Through a series of weekly sessions, clients are teamed with a mental health clinican, an equine specialist, and a therapy horse.  Based on the client's needs, sessions are individually tailored to address specific issues.

At Ther-Equine we employ an eclectic approach to therapeutic interventions.  We believe in a holistic, recovery model utilizing equine-assisted psychotherapy as our focus.  Some clinical components that are incorporated into sessions include:

  • Experiential psychoterapy

  • Mindfulness breathing

  • Sensory / Body Awareness & Integration

  • Reality Thearpy

  • Problem-Solving

  • Rhythmic Riding

  • Certified in Trauma Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (TF-EAP)
