Abstract |
Because the human-animal bond is often portrayed in strictly positive terms, it is easy to forget that it possesses an equally dark side that may complicate life for clients, patients, and veterinarians in many different ways. Among these are 3 bond-related situations that may result in the owner either giving up on or euthanizing the animal before the practitioner believes this is justifiable: the client • has no attachment to the animal, • has a negative relationship with the animal, • is attached to what the animal symbolizes rather than the animal itself. |
