Abstract

Eagles’ Wings Stable, whose mission is to provide therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities for people with special needs, was co-founded by Keith and Ann Schaurer and Keith's mother, Sandra Knipe. The Schaurer’s became involved in Therapeutic Riding in 2003 after a nephew was diagnosed with transverse myelitis. In 2004 they began development of a business model, became involved with The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, known as PATH, built a new stable, converted an existing machine shed to an indoor riding arena, began training for Keith to become a Certified Riding Instructor, and launched a successful pilot program. They received their 501 (c) (3) status from the IRS in 2006.
