To provide, promote, and support therapeutic riding programs for individuals who have disabling mental, physical, emotional, social and learning conditions under the guidelines established by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intlernational). Our goals are to engage persons with disabilities by providing scholarships and riding opportunities for students.
Horsin’ Around was first established in 2008 and received 501c non-profit status in January 2010. This young non-profit organization needs private and public support to build therapeutic riding services and equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in our geographic area. The program has two primary instructors and six regular volunteers who maintain the arenas and barn, provide care for the horses, and assist with school groups.
We provide Sensory Integration Trail and Equine Assisted Learning Opportunities. We serve special individuals who lack opportunities and appropriate challenges and provide a purpose and a peaceful place for mature horses. We serve many children from the Los Lunas schools in groups, on a regular basis, because their families cannot yet afford lessons.
Donna Tolbert, Executive Director, is a life-long horse enthusiast with experience in nursing and working with people with developmental disabilities. The organization and instructors are certified through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and volunteered mounted hours at the Painted Turtle, a Paul Newman Camp, in Lake Hughes, California.
