Abstract |
Growing up on a northern Ontario reserve, Max Kakekagumick and other youth struggled with the same issue - trying to get to school safely without being attacked by wild dogs, also known as “rez dogs”. As a high school student, he and some of his peers came up with a potential solution to humanely deal with this issue, while enabling Indigenous youth on reservations across Canada to access their schools and education without fear of being attacked. In this talk, Max creates awareness around this issue and encourages others to help with a solution. Max Kakekagumick is a student leader from the Community Eabametoong First Nation, otherwise known as Fort Hope, that is an Ojibway First Nations band government in the Kenora District of Ontario, Canada. He recently finished high school and is currently attending Confederation College. Max has a dream of being a political leader in the future to pursue and support his passions, which include the environment and our relationship with it. He loves to be around animals and some of his favourite pastimes are when he is out and one with nature.
